Most people rarely give their furnace and A/C units much thought. As long as things are running smoothly, it’s easy to forget they even exist. However, when they malfunction, they can become the center of attention. By properly maintaining your HVAC system and having it tuned up regularly, you can help prevent these malfunctions and avoid unexpected repairs.
Furnace and A/C filters can quickly accumulate a lot of junk–dust, skin cells, and all kinds of floating particles that exist in your home or office. Over time, this build up can cause unnecessary strain on your furnace and a/c, causing them to work harder and reducing their effectiveness. Over time, your HVAC system can malfunction and stop working if your filters aren’t properly maintained. So how often should you replace your filters?
The ideal answer is every month. Replacing your filters monthly helps prevent strain and keeps your system running smoothly. If you don’t replace them regularly, your unit has to work harder and harder to maintain your desired temperatures. You can use either disposable filters, or if you would like, you can invest in washable filters. Both are effective, and it all comes down to your preferences. Washable filters are more expensive, but have the benefit of being reusable over long periods of time.
